Artist Pham Kim Hoa
Pham Kim Hoa is an artist and an art lecturer in Vietnam. She graduated from Vietnam University of Fine Arts in the period when the influence of French Art took hold in Vietnam. Therefore, her painting style has modernism combined with the beauty of Eastern Art as well as the Vietnam identity. In her paintings, there are profoundness, sophistication in areas of color, elegant lines and shapes recording the moments, charms of the Vietnamese who are persistent, strong and peace-loving. We sense the optimistic soul of the artist who always tries to overcome her pains and difficulties to feel the beautiful life.
Painter Pham Kim Hoa has established her unique style highlighting the superiority and the identity of Vietnamese silk compared to silk from China and Japan. She still keeps the traditional way of painting which is the art of putting the brush on the silk delicately and actively. Because once the silk is soaked, it is impossible to make it light up anymore. She draws the lines on the silk first. The bold or light strokes, the big or small ones depend on her emotions towards the subject in each work. Every stroke is full of her feelings and viewpoints. Painting must be accurate because you cannot repair or erase the wrong stroke. Unlike the oil painting and the pigments, you can use another color to overlap the mistake.
After that, she painted the predetermined colors to finish the art. The last step is washing the silk. The traditional way of drawing requires the patience of the artist. She must dilute the color, then dye each fibre; the color layers overlap the others. Each color penetrates each silk thread to create the depth of the silk’s color palette. Most importantly, the time to wash the silk painting is carefully calculated.
She created the unique deepness of silk paintings by changing the lining for silk paintings. If we place her silk paintings on a jade-green lining, painting lovers will see various shades of jade green moving horizontally and vertically along each of the silk thread that had soaked in different aspects of colors. We only feel the magic when we see it with our own eyes.
Her paintings are included in numerous private painting collections all over the world. In 2010, her painting is honorably exhibited at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, remarking her as one of the most influential modern contemporary artists in silk paintings in Vietnam. See her paintings, people feel that they are soothing, uplifting, warm bass, and extremely elegant. The genius of the artist is also reflected in the space that really makes the viewers feel lost in the works.
In 2019, she hold the first successful solo “La via della seta” exhibition at Francesco Zanuso Gallery in Milan, Itay. She became the first Vietnamese female artist who has a solo exhibition in Italy.
